TRUMAN —
A 23-year-old Winnebago man faces charges after allegedly stabbing 29 hogs in a rural Truman pig barn.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said a caller reported a suspicious person in the Wiechman Pigs barn about 3:30 a.m. April 27.
The caller told a deputy that a man later identified as Curtis Adams had arrived at the site looking for help because his truck had gotten stuck.
When the deputy made contact with Adams, he noticed blood on his hands and detected the odor of pigs and manure.
A breath test showed Adams’ blood-alcohol content was more than the legal limit for driving.
An inspection of the barn in the morning revealed the hogs had been cut or stabbed. A knife identified as belonging to Adams was found outside the barn, authorities said.
The 29 pigs had to be euthanized. Total damage is estimated at $7,800.
