June crash brings felony charges

MANKATO — A June crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured resulted in felony charges being filed against the alleged car driver who investigators say caused the crash.

Dominique Lamar Breham, 19, is scheduled to make his first court appearance Sept. 6 for a felony charge of criminal vehicular injury and a misdemeanor charge of driving while impaired.

Breham is already in jail because he is one of several people arrested last month for allegedly selling cocaine to undercover officers working with the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force.

Deputies from the Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Department were sent to a crash on Blue Earth County Road 8 at 9:35 a.m. June 4. When they arrived, they found 19-year-old Michael Douglas Sack lying in a ditch.

Sack, who was later treated for a broken and dislocated hip and foot and ankle injuries, was following an Oldsmobile sedan driven by Breham when the crash reportedly occurred. Breham told deputies he had pulled to the right shoulder while traveling south on the road, then made a U-turn. That’s when Sack, also traveling south, hit the front of the car.

Sack flew an estimated 180 feet after hitting the car, Capt. Rich Murry said at the time. The motorcycle traveled about 50 feet through the air, hit a ditch, then flew about 40 more feet. Murry said it was likely the helmet Sack was wearing saved his life.

Breham’s car was searched because deputies smelled marijuana. After marijuana was found, Breham was given a drug test, the criminal complaint said. That test allegedly showed Breham had amphetamine, methamphetamine and other controlled substances in his system.

The alleged drug sales that resulted in Breham’s July arrest allegedly took place before the crash occurred. Breham is charged with selling 24 grams of cocaine to a confidential informant and undercover officers for $900 on May 3. He was arrested and charged with that crime July 25, more than a month after the crash.
