BELLE PLAINE — Reconstruction of the Highway 169 and Scott County Road 3/Meridian Street intersection in Belle Plaine will begin Monday.
Highway 169 traffic through the project area will reduced to single lane during construction.
The intersection will be reconstructed to improve its safety, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said.
After reconstruction it will be a three-quarters intersection, which will allow all movements of traffic except the north/south crossing of Highway 169 and left turns from Meridian Street and Scott County Road 3.
Some of the other project features are roadway lighting; all-way stop signs at the southbound ramp intersection for (on the west side of) the Highway 169 and Highway 25 interchange; and some median closures on Highway 169 between Scott County Road 3/Meridian Street and Belle Plaine Trail.
For about two weeks after the project begins, motorists will be unable access Highway 169 from the intersection. When work begins on the Highway 169 median, left turns from Highway 169 will not be allowed for about one month, although right turns will be allowed from Scott County Road 3/Meridian Street.
Detoured traffic will be routed through the Highway 169 and Highway 25 interchange. Motorists are urged to use alternative traffic routes to avoid delays.
The project is scheduled to be completed by early November.
