AUDIO SLIDESHOW: Investigators and Zabawa

This Feb. 4, 2007, interview was conducted a day after the murders of Tracy Kruger and his son Alec in their Waseca home. He had spent the night in jail and had already been interviewed for four hours the day before, where Zabawa had repeatedly denied being in the house. It was at the end of that interview, which lasted from about 7:30 a.m. until after noon, that Zabawa said there had been a struggle and the shootings were accidental.

Hilary Kruger, the only living witness, testified that there was no struggle between Zabawa and her husband, and that Zabawa's first shot hit her while she was sleeping. Zabawa was convicted of the murders of Tracy and Alec Kruger and the attempted murder of Hilary Kruger. He was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 216 months.
