The trio of alpacas that call the Sibley Park Zoo home got their new summer ’dos on Monday, courtesy of Paul Hofmann of Battle Creek, Iowa.
Reluctance to going under the clipper turned to resignation and, eventually, to relief as the electric clippers wielded by Hofmann sliced through their thick, luxurious fleece.
Not only did the animals find some relief from the heat when unburdened of the heavy winter coats, but “a little off the top” also improved their vision considerably.
Each animal yielded 7 to 8 pounds of the fleece that Hofmann took in exchange for his shearing services.
