After 'walk,' dog returned to humane society

MANKATO — A pit bull named Rosie who was taken for a walk and not returned Monday was brought back to the Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society Wednesday with a new collar and a flimsy excuse.

The woman who brought the dog back said she was just fostering her and acted like it was no big deal, said Katherine Nelson, a BENCHS board member.

“We know that’s not the truth,” she said.

Nelson doesn’t know if the woman who returned the dog was the same person who took her Monday for what turned out to be a two-day walk.

Nelson said the shelter requires a name and phone number for dog walkers. They figure the woman gave a false name, but they’re not sure.

Rosie, the 9-month-old pit bull, is a “very sweet, sweet dog, a very happy little girl,” Nelson said. “That’s why I think they wanted her. She has such a nice personality.”

Nelson figures the ostensible dog walker had a change of heart, especially after lots of people started asking questions about the dog after seeing a brief article in the newspaper.

Rosie, who first came to the shelter after the city picked her up as a stray, will be spayed Monday and up for adoption after that.
