Drive-by gooseing in North Mankato park
NORTH MANKATO — North Mankato police are searching for a man who went goose hunting in Spring Lake Park Sunday afternoon.
Police Lt. Carl Bock said witnesses saw a man pull up next to the east side of Spring Lake, open the door and shoot a shotgun twice in the direction of the fountain at about 4:30 p.m.
The man then trudged through the lake, which is now a few feet deep, retrieved a goose, and drove away.
The urban hunting escapade was not without collateral damage; a goose and a duck were left dead at the scene.
No humans were injured.
“It certainly appears that the intent was to kill ducks and geese,” Bock said.
The hunter’s car is described as a dark green, subcompact four-door. Its side mirrors, door handles and tire rims are black.
He faces possible charges for firing a gun in the city and for illegally taking the game animal.
Anyone with more information is asked to call North Mankato police at 625-4141.
