NEW ULM — DNA evidence from a 1989 rape in New Ulm has brought a Mason City, Iowa, man to justice.
Wayne Everett, 55, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Brown County District Court to third-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary for breaking into a woman’s home and assaulting her.
Everett said he was under the influence of LSD and drinking tequila that night. He worked in the New Ulm area in 1989 as a sales representative for an Iowa resort.
Authorities last year were able to match Everett’s DNA to semen left at the crime scene. Everett has an extensive criminal history.
His sentencing is set for Jan. 10.
