NORTH MANKATO — An anonymous tip has led investigators to the teens they suspect are responsible for the shooting of at least three waterfowl at Spring Lake Park last month.
Juvenile charges related to the discharge of a firearm in city limits and hunting violations are being requested for a 16-year-old Mankato boy and a 17-year-old North Mankato boy.
It’s not yet been determined whether the teens would be facing misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor or felony-level charges in juvenile court.
Several witnesses called police at about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 29 to report someone had fired two rounds from a shotgun after driving into the park’s east parking lot.
One caller said someone got out of the vehicle, walked into Spring Lake, retrieved a goose, returned to the vehicle and drove away. Another dead goose and a dead hen mallard floated to the shoreline after the incident.
