MANKATO — A deputy who already had been dispatched to a standoff on Homestead Drive Saturday was called away to deal with another potentially violent situation.
The Blue Earth County sheriff’s deputy was assisting Mankato police at Homestead Drive when someone called 911 at about 6:20 p.m. to report there was a man with a knife at a downtown apartment complex.
That man, 22-year-old Adam Mark Simonson, was arrested at gunpoint and charged Tuesday with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of making terroristic threats, all felonies.
Two men were locked in a bathroom at Simonson’s apartment, which is in the Downtowner complex on the 400 block of North Fifth Street, when the deputy arrived, the criminal complaint said. They said Simonson became violent and threatened them with a butcher knife after inviting them over.
One of the victims said they heard Simonson make a telephone call after they locked themselves in the bathroom. He said Simonson, who had been drinking, told the person he called that someone better come and get him before he harmed someone.
After Simonson was arrested, he had to be placed in restraints at the jail, the complaint said. He allegedly threatened to kill a custody officer during that time frame.
