NEW ULM —
School officials in New Ulm said they planned to search students entering the city’s high school today after a bomb threat was found Thursday afternoon.
A note with a threatening message was found on the floor at New Ulm High School, according to a message posted on the New Ulm Public School District’s website Thursday evening. The note said a person planned to bomb the high school today.
A crisis team including law enforcement officers and school staff searched the building Thursday, but nothing suspicious was found.
The school district message said all students will be searched as they enter the school today. Backpacks and purses will be thoroughly searched. Additional security measures will be in place.
In late February of last year, Washington Elementary School in New Ulm was searched after a threatening message about a bomb was found in the second floor girl’s bathroom of that school. The message was found on a Friday afternoon and students were already being dismissed, so only staff had to be evacuated from the building.
The school was searched again after a second bomb threat was found the following Tuesday, which was March 2, 2011. Backpacks and purses were searched the following day as students entered the school.
