Snowstorm snarls commute in Twin Cities

— A major snowstorm that buried parts of the Midwest grazed southern Minnesota, where two to three inches of snow snarled the morning commute in the Twin Cities area.

The State Patrol reports a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 13 south of Interstate 494 in Eagan. One driver was killed when a northbound vehicle lost control, slid sideways into southbound traffic and was broadsided about 8 a.m. Friday.

The Patrol reports 124 crashes statewide as of 9 a.m., including 23 with injuries, and 119 spinouts or vehicles off the road.

Driving conditions are rated difficult across the metro area , most of southeastern Minnesota and parts of central and south-central Minnesota

Dozens of Minnesota school districts called off classes or started two hours late.
