MANKATO —
A pair of political debates are scheduled on Tuesday night in Mankato.
The first, from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. at the AmericInn Hotel and Conference Center, will include the six candidates vying for three open seats on the Mankato City Council. The event is hosted by Greater Mankato Growth.
The second debate, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Minnesota State University’s Bresnan Arena, is sponsored by Debate Minnesota and features all three candidates for governor: Tom Horner (Independence), Tom Emmer (Republican) and Mark Dayton (Democrat).
Jonathan Zierdt, president of Greater Mankato Growth, said City Council debate was originally scheduled the event an hour later, but rearranged the time to allow voters to attend both debates.
“Fortunately, the two events are just few blocks away from one another,” Zierdt said. “... It may be a sprint, but at least this way voters who want to attend both events may do so.”
For the City Council debate, voters are encouraged to visit www.greatermankatoelections.com and submit questions they would like to have asked. Also at that site, voters can find more information about candidates and events.
