Neighborhood crash injures driver

Woman cited for careless driving

MANKATO — A 20-year-old Mankato woman was injured when her car and a vehicle pulling out of driveway on South Brook Circle collided at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Courtney Kelly Peterson was driving a  2003 Mazda in the 100 block of South Brook Circle, which is in the Southbrook neighborhood south of the Minnesota State University campus, when Kathleen Ann Helms, 43, of Mankato backed out of her driveway in a 2008 Volkswagon, a Mankato Department of Public Safety report said.

Peterson attempted to pass and struck Helms' vehicle on the passenger side. Peterson's car flipped on to its top. She was taken by a private party to the hospital, where she was treated and released. Peterson also was cited for careless driving, the report said.
