Lake Crystal man arrested for raping girl

— A Lake Crystal man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly luring a 12-year-old girl to his apartment and raping her.

Lake Crystal police became concerned about the victim after a school employee called to report she wasn’t at school and hadn’t been seen since the night before. When an officer called her mother, she said she wanted to report the victim as a runaway.

About an hour later the girl’s mother called police to report her daughter had returned home and would be going to school. An officer learned about the alleged rape when he stopped at the school later that morning to talk to the victim.

She told the officer she had been raped the night before by a man she only knew as William. She said she met the man at the post office and agreed to go to his apartment with him.

Once at the apartment, the man pushed her down and started kissing her, the victim reported. When she attempted to fight back, he choked her until she was unconscious, she said. The girl and the man were both stripped from the waist down and the man was biting her stomach when she woke up, she said.

The officer was eventually able to determine that the man being described by the victim was 21-year-old William Marcus Daniel Edwards. He located Edwards and arrested him.
