MANKATO — 400 to 500 people packed the area around Reconciiation Park as about 60 riders rode in for a ceremony commemorating the hanging of 38 Dakota men in Mankato in 1862. A group of Dakota runners, who started at Frot Snelling, also arrived during the ceremony.
A new memorial containing the names of the 38 Dakota, along with a poem and prayer, was also dedicated during the nearly two-hour ceremony.
