Marilyn J. Borchardt

—   Marilyn J. Borchardt, age 77 of Mankato, died peacefully Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at her home in Mankato.

  Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Dr. Scott Olson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Clinic Health System Cardiac Center, Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice, or Grace Lutheran Church.

  Marilyn Jean was born March 22, 1935 to Luke and Alta (Ziegler) Hassing in Mankato.  She graduated from Mankato High School. On September 25, 1954, Marilyn was united in marriage to Marvin Borchardt at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato.  Marilyn and Marvin celebrated 53 years of marriage and were blessed with four children.  Marilyn worked at Mankato Corporation for 14 years, and then owned her own business, East Main Ceramics where she taught ceramic classes. She also worked for Designing Women.  Marilyn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Red Hats Society in Florida.  She enjoyed watching the Twins, the Vikings, going to Mystic Lake, their Washington Lake Cabin, and wintering in Florida.  Marilyn loved watching the wildlife around her home, especially the cardinals, deer, and hummingbirds, but not the squirrels!

  Marilyn is survived by her four children, Gary Borchardt and his wife Gwen of rural Mankato, Scott Borchardt and his wife Nancy of Janesville, Pam Braam and her husband Richard of Mankato, and Lisa Mueller and her husband Brian of Mankato; six grandchildren, Marybeth Wilhelmi and her husband Billy, Terra Harrington and her husband, Wayne, Carissa Borchardt and her fiance Jeremy Liebherr, Britni, Keeli and Kadyn Mueller; two step-grandchildren, Brock and Leah Tarpy; great-grandsons, Tyler and Hunter Wilhemi and Bentley Pates; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

  Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin in 2007; great-grandson, Mason Tarpy; a brother and a sister.
