Florence Lillian Evans

— Florence Lillian Evans, age 87, of Mankato and formerly of Lake Crystal, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Laurel's Peak in Mankato.

 Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012, at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before service Thursday at Northview. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial Schools, First Presbyterian Church, or donor's choice.

 Florence was born July 7, 1925, to Charles Frederick and Emma (Knott) Birkemeyer in Elbow Lake, MN.  She graduated from Elbow Lake High School and then St. Cloud State Teachers College.  Florence taught at Aitkin where she met her future husband, Charles E. Evans, they were married on August 10, 1949, in St. Cloud.  Florence taught school in Aitkin, Zumbrota, Becker, and Nicollet where she retired.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Crystal, the Key City Kennel Club, and BENCHS.  Florence and Chuck moved from Lake Crystal to Mankato in 2002.  Florence enjoyed playing bridge, visiting with family and friends, and sharing her many stories.

 Florence is survived by her sister-in-law, Peggy Evans of Mankato, and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

 Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles, on June 10, 2010; two brothers, Cleon Birkemeyer and Irving Birkemeyer; two sisters, Charlotte Birkemeyer and Edna Olsen; brother-in-law, George Evans; and a nephew, Patrick Dowling.

 Flossie will be remembered as an avid animal lover, advocate for others and a dear friend.  Flossie was quick to tell a good story, give advice, make others laugh, and love unconditionally.  She will be missed by many and forgotten by none.
