Sister M. Irene Federspiel

— Sister M. Irene Federspiel, SSND, 87, died Friday, December 16, 2011, at

Good Counsel, Mankato.

Her Funeral Mass is Tuesday, December 20, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at Good Counsel, with 7:00 p.m. Vespers, and

one hour before services Tuesday. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Sister M. Irene (Eileen Federspiel) was born near Gilbertville, Iowa, in

1924. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1942 and professed

first vows in 1945. She was a home service sister until 1959, and then

became an elementary teacher. She taught primary grades in several Catholic

Schools, including All Saints, Madison Lake, from 1981 until 1985. In 1986

she became the founder and one of the principal crafters of Ceramic Haven on

Good Counsel Hill, where she continued to work until shortly before her

death.

She is survived by her sisters, Bernice Babinet, Jo-Ann Wierck and Jeanette

Klinoff (Roger); nieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in

community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Magdalen (Funfsinn)

Federspiel; and a brother Loren.
