William F. Severin

—   William F. Severin, age 87 of Delano died on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

  Born on July 13, 1925 in Albert Lea, Minnesota he was the son of Albert and Myrtle (Nelson) Severin.  He graduated from Waseca High School and Mankato Teachers College.  Bill served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict.  He married Veronica M. Sexton on September 6, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.  They moved to Grand Meadow where they lived for 19 years where he was a teacher, football and baseball coach, and athletic director.

  After moving to North Mankato, he worked for the Rain & Hail Insurance Bureau.  They later moved to Medina and Independence where he continued to work for Rain & Hail as regional vice president.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time with his family at the lake, and winter getaways to Florida and Arizona.  He was an avid fan of both baseball and football and had played baseball for the Waseca Braves in the Southern Minny League.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion and VFW, and was inducted into the MN High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 1989.

  He is survived by his children, Bill (Diane) Severin of Waseca, Thomas (Susan) Severin of Circle Pines, Suzanne (Jeffrey) Fowler of Dilworth, Todd (Jill) Severin of Dayton, and Blake (Erica) Severin of Maple Plain; eight grandchildren, Ben and Adam Severin, Aaron, Jordan and Max Severin, Jessie Sejtanic, Kera Swiger, and Emily Severin; and three great grandchildren.  He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Catherine (Arnold) Deverell of Stockton, CA, Lorna Sexton of Waseca, and Helen Hinton of Winthrop.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1997, two brothers, four sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law.

  Visitation will be held at Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 4-8 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.

  Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
