Sister M. Celeste Glovka, SSND

—   Sister M. Celeste Glovka, SSND, 98, died Monday, August 27, 2012, at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Friday, August 31, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel.  Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Good Counsel, with 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service, and one hour before services Friday.  Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

  Sister Celeste (Viola Glovka) was born in Windom in 1913 to Henry and Mary (Weber) Glovka.  After the death of her mother, she moved with her grandparents to Mankato, where she attended grades 1-12 at Good Counsel Academy, possibly the only person to attain this distinction.

  She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1930 and professed first vows in 1933.  She taught elementary grades in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Washington. In 1990 she came to Good Counsel, where she gave community service until her retirement in 2002.

  She is survived by cousins, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
