MARTINSVILLE/MIDDLETON-Friedrich Joseph Statz died in a car accident Monday night, November 12th, at 8 pm.
Fred was a boisterous man with a deep love of Family and Football. He was a great fan of the Green Bay Packers and Coach Vince Lombardi. He lived his life by the lessons put forth by Lombardi and is, forever, a positive Leader and Friend for many. At the time of his death he had just finished another season coaching Defense for Waseca High School in Minnesota. He was also a coach and player with the South Central Hawgs when they won the 9-man Semi-Pro Football National Championship at the Metrodome this last July. He started his football career with St. Francis Xavier in 5th Grade, then beating his asthma he continued on to play for Middleton High School where they won the Big 8 Championship his Senior year in 2005 and was named All Conference Defensive Tackle. After graduation he went to college at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He was a walk on for the Mavericks football team as an active player and coach. He was awarded the CARE (Commitment, Accountability, Responsibility, and Effort) Award voted for by his teammates, coaches, and football program staff; this award shows that the player epitomized the values and ethics of the University Athletics program in addition to the Athletic Scholastic Award. And as any good ol' Wisconsin boy, his family came first. Born June 5th, 1987, in Madison, Wisconsin, he and his twin sister, Emily (Cash), joined their family.
He is survived by his parents, Bill and Kathy Statz and two older sisters, Katrina McKee and Vicki Smith. He is also survived by his three Brothers-in-law; T.J. McKee, Ben Cash and Brad Smith, and Nieces and Nephews; Lilli McKee, Keri McKee, Tim McKee, Isabelle Cash and a 2nd nephew due in December, his Maternal Grandparents and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Martins Catholic Church, 5959 St. Martins Circle, Martinsville, at Noon on Saturday, November 17, 2012, with Father Brian Dulli presiding. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery.
Our family has too many memories to place here but we invite you to attend a visitation for Fred Statz, which will be held at Gunderson West Funeral & Cremation Care, 7435 University Ave, Middleton, on Friday, November 16, 2012, following a 4:00 PM Scripture service until 8:00 PM and also on Saturday at the church from 10:30 AM until time of Mass.
