Darwin D. Sargent

—  Darwin D. Sargent, 73, of St. Peter, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at his home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Church of St. Peter with Father Phil Schotzko officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

  Darwin was born January 25, 1939, to Jonathon "Jack" and Eleanor (Schumacher) Sargent.  He graduated from Mankato High School in 1957.  On June 27, 1959, Darwin was united in marriage to JoAnn Marie Patnaude in Mankato.  He worked for the Dotson Company in Mankato for 46 years, retiring in July of 2003.  In his free time Darwin enjoyed woodworking, building and remodeling houses, fishing, and gardening.  He was an active volunteer for 28 years and served on the Board of Directors for the St. Peter Area Food Shelf.  He also enjoyed volunteering at the St. Peter Thrift Store.  He was a member of the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers Union Local 142B and served as president for over 20 years.

 He is survived by wife, JoAnn Sargent of St. Peter; sons, Mark Sargent and special friend Kathryn Braam of Mankato and Rick (Cindy) Sargent of Mankato; daughters, Michelle (Todd) Hansen of Madison Lake and Amy (Gary) Brown of St. Peter; grandchildren, Kristi Vogt, Kyle Brown, Samantha Hansen, Danielle Hansen, Andrew Sargent, Travis Sargent, Kayla Smisek, Thom Smisek, Dustin Smisek, Dylan Smisek, and Bradley Smisek; great granddaughter, Arianna Sargent; brothers, Dale (Fran) Sargent of Janesville and Don (Rosemary) Sargent of Mankato; sister, Dee Ann Winkler of Good Thunder; brother in law Bill Patnaude of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

  Darwin is preceded in death by son, Christopher, and his parents.

   In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred.
