James Platte Dunn

  James Platte Dunn, 88, of Minneapolis died Jan. 16, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Bowling Green, OH, on July 8, 1924. He served in the US Army, graduated from Bowling Green State Univ., earned a masters from the U of Mich. and a PhD from the U of Iowa. He married Shirley Ann Wall in 1947. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Minerva and Reed, and brother, Dick.  He is survived by his wife, Shirley, who describes him as her husband, her best friend and her lover; brother Tom (Janis), sons Steve (Vickie), Michael (Cindy) and daughter Susan Oftedahl (Bruce); 5 granddaughters and 3 great-grandchildren.  Jim enjoyed a long career in teaching, including Monmouth College in Ill. and Minnesota State University, Mankato. As one of the founding members of OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) he taught ongoing opera classes.  Opera was his passion and he also rarely missed a MN. Orch. concert.  He and Shirley loved to travel. Memorials preferred.
