Marguerite K. Benton

WASECA —  Funeral services for Marguerite K. Benton, 95, of Fairmont, MN, will be11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.  Burial will be following the service in the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Fairmont.  Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the time of service. Marguerite passed away Wednesday afternoon, February 6, 2013, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.  The Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

  Marguerite K. (Scheff) Benton was born on September 3, 1917, in Rutland Township, Martin County, MN, the daughter of Chris and Caroline (Sieburg) Scheff.  As a child, Marguerite moved with her family to Clara City, SD; Jackson, MN; and then returned to Fairmont.  She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1935.

  On June 25, 1938, Marguerite was united in marriage to Vincent Benton in Fairmont, MN.  Together the couple made their home on the Benton Homestead near Fairmont where they cared for Vincents parents, farmed, and also raised chickens, geese and Muscovy ducks.  Marguerite also worked as a housekeeper for Lake Airs Supper Club and Higland Motel in Fairmont for many years in addition to also caring for her mother.

   Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Judith Orr and her husband, Jim of Fairmont, MN; grandchildren, Ron Streit of Mapleton, MN, Teresa (Rick) Rausch of DeBary, FL, Sharon Gaalswyk of St. Peter, MN, Mark (Kristine) Streit of Garden City, MN, Richard (Tracy) Gaalswyk of St. Peter, MN, and A.J. Orr of Ceylon, MN; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as many other extended family and friends.

    Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Caroline Scheff; mother-in-law and father-in-law; brother, Robert Scheff; husband, Vincent Benton; daughter, Karen Gaalswyk; son-in-law, Gary Gaalswyk; and a granddaughter, Laura Streit.

   The family requests memorial be given in Marguerites name to the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont.
