Alice Elisabelle (Carlson) Sjoding

—   Alice Elisabelle (Carlson) Sjoding, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 in Golden Oaks Assisted Living.

  She was born in Omaha, Nebraska May 16, 1915 to Carl Linde and Mabel (Meleen) Carlson. She worked as a private secretary for Nebraska Power Company. Alice married J. Donald Sjoding, MD in 1943. She was a P.E.O. member, a member of various garden clubs, a lifelong Lutheran and a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, Lutsen Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. Alice had a passion for gardening and identifying wildflowers and birds.  She was an active community volunteer all of her adult life.

  She was preceded in death by her brothers Marlin and Chester Carlson and a sister Irene Carlson.

  Survivors include her husband of 69 years J. Donald Sjoding; a son, Carl (Patricia) Sjoding; daughters, Donna (Stan) Amidon, Minneapolis, MN and Carol (Scott) Custead, Johnstown, PA; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.

  The family would like to thank Golden Oaks for their compassionate care of Alice.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donors choice.

  VISITATION: 12:00 noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in Dougherty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Grand Marais, MN.
