LaVerne W. Matthies

  LaVerne "Vern"  Matthies, age 80 of Eagle Lake, died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at his home.

  Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 7 at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake with Rev. Mary Iverson.  Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6 at Epiphany Lutheran with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service at church Thursday.  Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery.

  LaVerne William Matthies was born September 24, 1931 in Faribault, MN to William and Leaffia (Shook) Matthies.  He graduated from Faribault High School in 1949.  Vern entered the Army in 1949 and was discharged in 1951. He married Bernadette Kline on October 16, 1952 in Mason City, IA.  He worked at the Faribault Woolen Mill and the Ford garage in Faribault. Vern went into a partnership with Otto Wells at M&W Auto Repair.  He also worked at Lincoln-Mercury as Parts Foreman, at Paul's Service Center, and in 1962 established Vern's Repair in Eagle Lake.

  The family would like give a special thanks to all customers and friends over the many years. Vern enjoyed fishing, antique cars, camping, and playing with his grandchildren.

  Vern is survived by his wife, Bernadette of Eagle Lake; two children, Jeffrey (Vicki) Matthies of White Bear Lake, MN, Shirley (Gary) Nemetz of Gilbert, AZ; eight grandchildren; two brothers, David (Marcella) Matthies and Robert (Joyce) Matthies, both of Faribault; sister, Phyllis Keppler of Birmingham, MI; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Darlene Graves.
