David L. Giersdorf, 68, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at his home. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer last summer. Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Collette Broady Preiss officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bethlehem. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Mankato Taylor Library, specifically for e-books, or Hospice.
Dave was born May 21, 1944 in Mt. Lake to Leonard Giersdorf and Mavis (Uhlenhopp/Giersdorf) Blakesly. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1962. Dave was united in marriage to Gail Heaberlin on March 23, 1985 in Mankato. He enjoyed sailing, skiing, flying RC airplanes, reading, playing guitar, and riding his Harley. Dave was active in several clubs over the years including MSU Vets Club, Kato Cycle Club, Key City Bald Eagles, and was a founding member of the Goosedowners Ski & Social Club.
He is survived by wife, Gail L. Heaberlin-Giersdorf of North Mankato; son, Asher Giersdorf of Mankato; daughters, Jodie (Joel) Stangret of Waconia and Hannah Giersdorf of Minneapolis; grandson, Dustin Murray; brothers, Larry (Linda) Giersdorf of Mankato and Curt (Rica) Giersdorf of North Mankato; sister, Rita (Jerry) Hanson of Bigfork; In-laws, Terry Halter, Nancy (Rick) Heaberlin, Sandi (Ross) Lubrant, Michele (Larry) Nydegger, Chuck Heaberlin; and many nieces & nephews.
David is preceded in death by his parents and his mother in-law, Lorene Heaberlin.
