Verna Stella Lorentz, age 89 of North Mankato, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health Care System - Mankato.
Private family services will be held. Mankato Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Verna was born August 10, 1922, to Jim and Stella (Steele) Gates in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato State Teachers College and taught in public schools for a few years. On August 5, 1942, Verna was united in marriage to Myles Lorentz, Sr. in Mankato. She worked for the family businesses which included their farm, Lorentz Bus Service serving Mankato Public Schools for many years, and was the "accounts specialist" at Myles Lorentz, Inc. Verna enjoyed observing the wildlife with Myles on their farmland. She also enjoyed kitties and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren up until the end.
Verna is survived by her three children, Joe (Jean) Lorentz of Mankato, Rosemary (Vic) Powers of Chapel Hill, NC, and Connie (Neil) Letts of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren, Jess Lorentz, Jolynn Kurtz, Amy Simon, Molly Nickal, Kim (Grant) Dickens, Gina (Adam) Lokeh-Letts, Jim (Erin) Letts, and Tom (Jen) Letts; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Cecil (Bev) Gates of Mankato; sister, Hazel Finkle of California; also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myles in 1997; daughter, Janet Lorentz; granddaughter, Beth Powers; and sister, Erma (Harold) Anderson.
