Carlyle Hanson

— Carlyle Hanson, age 90, of Mankato, formerly of Frost and Blue Earth, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living, N. Mankato. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at 11:30 AM, at Bethany Lutheran Church rural Frost, with Rev. Patricia Hinkie & Rev. Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, rural Frost. Visitation time will be from 9:30 AM until service time at the church on Saturday. Carlyle was born February 11, 1920, at Rome Township, MN, the son of Peter and Annamarie (Johnson) Hanson. He was raised in rural Frost and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1938. He attended Minneapolis Business College and earned an Associates Degree in Business. He returned to Frost and began helping his father farm the family farm. He was married to Esther E. Nimz on August 1, 1943 in Rome Township. Carlyle farmed for many years and worked farms in 3 southern Minnesota counties form several years. He was an innovator in farming, adapting many pieces of machinery to fit the needs of large farm operations. His innovations were once featured in the Minneapolis Tribune and in Newsweek magazine. Carlyle was a lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a kind, gentle, soft spoken man who enjoyed spending time with family and wintering in Arizona in the later years. His Arizona friends called him “Minnesota Fats” as we was a good snooker player.

Carlyle is survived by his wife, Esther Hanson of N. Mankato, his daughter, Carolyn Hill of N. Mankato, his daughter, Mary (Ron) Hogstad of Frost, his son, Richard (Carol) Hanson of West Concord, his son, Robert (Vickie) Hanson of Frost, his daughter, Marsha (Scott) Madigan of N. Mankato, his sister, Julienne Tesarek of Coffee Creek, Montana, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Geneva Shirk and brothers-in-law, Merle Shirk and Charles Tesarek.
