Barbara Ann Hopewell

— Barbara Ann Hopewell, 73, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, at her home in Atlanta.

  Mrs. Hopewell was born in Mankato, Minn., on Aug. 29, 1932. She was the daughter of Marie and Edward Heitner, and granddaughter of Bertha Vosbeck, all of Mankato.

 Mrs. Hopewell was a skilled and dedicated emergency room nurse, who trained in Rochester, Minn. She served patients and saved lives for many years as a head nurse at New York City's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and moved to Atlanta in 1986, where she served as a head nurse at both Northside and Piedmont Hospitals.

  Mrs. Hopewell was a passionate, talented gardener and a self-taught artist. She was best recognized for the beautiful handmade jewelry she sold throughout Georgia.

  She is survived by her son Bruce, New York City, and grandson Ethan; her sister Connie Gerdts, three nieces and many cousins.

  She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother and her brother-in-law Russell Gerdts.

 A memorial service is scheduled at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Faith Lutheran Church, Cleveland, Ga.
