Mabel Hacker, 80, of Fairmont, formerly of New Ulm and Mankato, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, December 1 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Friday and 7:30-10 am Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Mabel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Marie and Rod Fiala of Welcome; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Rita Hacker of Windom, Paul and Robin Hacker of Currie; grandchildren, Kelsey, Caleb, Jacob, Notasha, Sheana, Travis, Sabrina, Stephanie, Trista, Thomas, Leah, Michaela, Rebecca, Heidi, Sarah, Wade, Jessica, Samantha, Kimberly; fourteen great grandchildren; brother, Glenn Walter of Mankato; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland in 1970; infant daughter, Marcia; grandson, Eric; twin sister, May; brothers, Gerald, Clarence, Emmett, Everett; special cousin, Leland; special mother-in-law, Minnie Hacker; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law.
Mabel Lucille Schlingmann was born May 21, 1932, in Mankato to Emil and Mabel (Anderson) Schlingmann. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1950 and then from the New Ulm School of Nursing as an LPN in 1951. On August 26, 1952, Mabel was united in marriage to Roland J. Hacker at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm. Mabel was a caring and devoted nurse and was employed at Loretto Hospital in New Ulm from 1951 to 1970. She served as the state and area president of the Minnesota LPN Association. Over the years, Mabel lived in Mankato, New Ulm, the Mountain Lake area, Fairmont, and also several years in Canyon Country, California with her twin sister, May. She was a member and past president of the Elks Lodge Does Drove 169, American Legion Auxillary, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxillary, all in Mankato. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, fishing with her brother, Glenn, bingo, crossword puzzles, and playing cards.
