Melvin Henry Augustin

—   Melvin Henry Augustin, 92, of Blue Earth, MN, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at St. Luke's Care Center in Blue Earth, surrounded by his family. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at St. Luke's. Pastor Karl Rydholm will officiate and the interment will be in the spring at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye, MN.  Please see brussheitner.com to leave online condolences.  Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.  

  Mel was born August 14, 1920, in Sleepy Eye, MN, the son of Albert and Emma Augustin.  On September 8, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lucille Grundmeyer in Sleepy Eye.  Mel grew up in Sleepy Eye, and the couple had moved to Blue Earth and had lived in Wells since 1960 until 1990 when they moved to Minnesota Lake.  Mel had worked as a meat cutter, warehouse foreman, and had a small engine repair business.  He was in the US Navy from 1942-1946 and was a 70 year member of the Wells American Legion and VFW.  He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and fishing.  He was an avid reader, but most especially, loved being with his family.

  Mel is survived by his wife Lucille of St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, MN; son, Steve (wife Dee) Augustin of Byron, MN; daughter, Wendy (husband Ted) Mays of Minnesota Lake, MN; 5 grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica) Augustin, Shana (Chad) Jensen, all of Byron, MN; Jared (Jenny) Mays of Sioux Falls, SD; Darin Mays and fiancee Briehn, Kendra Mays and fiance John, all of Minneapolis, MN; 9 great-grandchildren: Caden, Cole, Carson and Kaia Jensen; Daylen, Dawson and Davin Augustin; Elliot and Aurelia Mays, several in-laws, many nieces and nephews and their families.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Delores Johnston and brother, Wilbert in infancy.
