Doris Marie Hulda Schwanz

—   Doris Marie Hulda Schwanz, age 91, of South Branch, died on Friday, January 4, 2013, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.

  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013 at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour before services on Thursday.   Doris Marie Hulda Becker was born October 14, 1921, on the family farm in South Branch Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota, to parents Oscar and Mathilda (Greiner) Becker. She grew up and attended rural school in South Branch Township. She was united in marriage to Martin Schwanz on May 5, 1946. The couple made their home and farmed in the South Branch area. They moved to St. James in 1984. Doris was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at South Branch where she belonged to the Ladies Aide. She  was a member of the Garden Club and the American Legion Auxiliary #561 in Lewisville. Doris enjoyed scrapbooking, crocheting, embroidering, fishing, playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins.

  She is survived by her sons, Gary (Karla) Schwanz of St. James, Gerald (Jeanne) Schwanz of St. James, grandsons, Michael (Brooke) Schwanz and their son Oliver, Daron Schwanz and his fiance Anna Lawrence, Jared (Beth) Schwanz, Justin Schwanz, brothers-in-law, Gilbert (Lucille) Schwanz, Herman Jr. (Carol) Schwanz, George (Mary Jo) Schwanz, sisters-in-law, Gertrude Mau, Ruth (Herman) Wentzel and numerous nieces and nephews.

  Doris was preceded in death by her parents, brother, husband, five brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law.
