Merlyn Bjorklund

—   Merlyn went to be in the arms of Jesus on November 8, 2012.  He was born in Webb, IA, to Carl and Ethel Bjorklund on July 20, 1933.  He grew up in the Albert City area and graduated from Albert City high school in 1951.

 Merlyn married Leila Thompson in 1953 in St. James, MN, and shortly after enlisted in the US Army, serving most of the next three years in Alaska.  Upon returning to Minnesota he attended and graduated from Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul in 1958 and then moved to St. James where he worked for the next 8 years.

  In 1966 he moved with his family to Mankato and became one of the founding members of the United Pentecostal Church where has has faithfully served in many capacities throughout the years.

  After working in the grocery store business for several years Merlyn decided to go into business as a contractor for a few years until settling into his favorite career choice of a realtor. He worked for Midwest Realty for 25 years retiring just one year ago.

  He was always busy with one of his many hobbies...Collecting old bottles, fishing, reading, travel, garage saling and buying and selling antiques.  He loved to spend time in his garden as well as time with family and church family playing games, singing and enjoying life!

  He is a past member of the Summit Center Choir and the Morning Exchange Club.

  Merlyn is survived by his wife, Daughters Brenda (Terry) Herbst, Twyla (Juan) Tapia, Shari Ellingson, Darla Carlson and daughter-in-law Diane Bjorklund, 16 grandkids, 6 great grandkids, brother Ron (Gail) Bjorklund, sisters Sharol (Herb) Harrington, Sharon (Larry) Langworthy, sisters in law Grace Bjorklund and Donna Bjorklund,  many nieces, nephews and extended family.

   He was proceeded in death by his parents, son Tim, son-in-law Joel Ellingson, brothers Carl, Burdette, Neal, sisters Marjalean Bjorklund, Beverly Martin and Joelle Martin.

  Visitation will be at the United Pentecostal Church from 2-4 pm on Sunday, November 11th with a celebration of life immediately following.
