Gertrude W. Bate

—   Gertrude W. Bate, age 95 of Good Thunder, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.

  Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer Jr. officiating.  Burial will be at a later date at Lake Crystal Cemetery.  Visitation will be 12 NOON until the time of the service at the church.  Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.  Memorials are preferred to the donors choice.

  Gertrude was born to Herman & Minnie (Meyer) Doering on March 16, 1917, in Lyra Township, Blue Earth Co.  She attended St. Johns Lutheran School and was a 1935 graduate of Good Thunder High School.  She was united in marriage to William Bate on May 19, 1940, in Good Thunder.

  Gertrude was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.  She lived in the Good Thunder area all her life.  Gert was active in church activities, many clubs & volunteer work.  She enjoyed reading, art work, traveling, and her family & friends.

  Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellis of Mapleton; two granddaughters, Bonnie Smith of St. James and Lynn (Jim) Lentz of Good Thunder; great-granddaughter, Jenna Smith of Minneapolis; and her niece, nephews & cousins.

  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Jim Ellis; sister, Marcella Birr; and brother, Carl Doering.
