Grant M. Rome

  Grant M. Rome, 90, of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 with loving family present. Grant was born in Detroit Lakes, MN. April 20, 1922 to Fred and Verna Rome.

  Veteran of World War II as a Captain in the Air Force. He was an Instructor for BT-14s pilots in Waco, TX. He also flew B-17s and B-29s. When the war ended, he was transferred to Wiesbaden, Germany. Grant graduated from Mankato High School in Minnesota in 1940. Also attended Mankato State College. He participated in Basketball, Football and ran Track Through high school and college. Grant married Harriet George in Victoria, TX.

  In July of 1943. Grant was involved in furniture sales and became a buyer for Miller and Paine in 1969. Member of Eastridge Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee and Stephens Minister. He also was involved with The Food Bank of Lincoln and Habitat for Humanity. Avid golfer and music lover.

  Survived by his wife of 69 years, Harriet. Daughters, Barbara (Dennis) Gillund of Apple Valley, MN, Linda (Rob) Loe of McVille, ND. And Elizabeth (Alan) DeNino of Lincoln, NE. 8 Grandchildren and 2 Step-grandchildren. 16 Great-grandchildren. 1 Step Great-grandchild. Brother, Richard (Connie) Rome of Woodbury, MN.

  Preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister and 1 Grandson.

  Memorial Service; Monday, August 27, 2012, 11:00 am at Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Dr. Lincoln, NE. No visitation, cremation. Memorials can be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Condolences can be left at lincolnfh.com.
