Dr. John Nelson Park was an excellent person and much loved by all who knew him. Beloved only son of the late Col. John Park and Marjorie Park, Dr. Park was born August 29, 1930, in Owatonna, Minnesota, and died February 18, 2013. Dr. Park was very proud of his lineage which could be traced to his ancestor Peregrine White who was the only baby born on the Mayflower as it was docked outside Plymouth Colony. Dr. Park was also a distinguished scholar who graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, Yale University, and Columbia University at Union Seminary. Dr. Park went on to publish works in Behavioral Psychology. After receiving his Doctorate, Dr. Park taught at New York University in New York City, DePaul University in Chicago and eventually became Chairman of the Psychology and Sociology Department at the University of Minnesota and then retiring as Professor Emeritus.
Dr. John Nelson Park is survived by his Beloved Wife, Barbara Jean Park (nee Munn) and her children: Susan T. Baldassare, Verlyn Allen Thofson, Shari Kagermeier, Bruce Thofson and their Grand Children: Randy Thofson, Paige Bauer, Miranda Thofson, Olivia Kagermeier, Arden Baldassare and Nicole Thofson. Dr. Park's brilliant mind, gentle humor and quick wit will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 23, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel.
