Florian W. Seppman

—   Florian Walter Seppman, age 87, of rural Mankato, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

  Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in North Mankato.  Interment will be in Minneopa Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Memorials may be given to the church, Good Shepherd Lutheran School, or an organization of the donors choice.

  Florian was born May 13, 1925, to William and Emma (Schaub) Seppman in Mankato.  He attended the Mankato State Teachers College Training School.  He assisted his father on the farm until March of 1951, when he served for the United States Army.  Florian took basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington and anti-aircraft at Fort Bliss, Texas.  He also served one year in Alameda, California.  After honorably discharged in 1953, Florian went back to farming part-time.  On December 29, 1962, Florian was united in marriage to Dorothy Herrlich in Rapidan.  Florian worked as a handyman and a self-employed carpenter and had remodeled and built quite a few homes in the area.

  After the hail storm in 1981, Florian retired from farming.  After retirement, he took the job as caretaker of Minneopa Cemetery.  Florian was on the cemetery board, and also served as Treasurer.  He was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.  As winter hobbies, Florian enjoyed working with his hands.  He has made some very beautiful lamps and glass pictures.  Florian also enjoyed working with clocks, doll houses, glasswork, and other crafts.  His talents, hard work, and love will be missed by his family and friends.

  Florian is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Mankato; daughter, Carol (Timothy) Risdal of Burnsville; three granddaughters, Megan Risdal of Raleigh, NC, Paige Risdal of Winona, and Erin Risdal of Burnsville; two sisters, Dorothy (Armand) Paulson of Mankato and Deloris Bentdahl of Hanska; and many nieces and nephews.

  Florian was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Madison; and a stillborn daughter.
