Roger K. Whipps, 75, of Le Center, died Thursday, August 2, 2012, at his home. Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center on Monday, August 6 from 9 - 11 a.m. Funeral Services will also be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center.
Roger was born in Le Center on September 30, 1936 to Albert and Lenore (Welckle) Whipps. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Le Center High School. He was a talented football player for 3 years and made all conference 2 years.
He worked for Farm Service, and was a Civil Defense worker for 13 years in Le Center and helped Jerry Hayden on the ambulance service. In 1987 Roger had a heart attack and a heart transplant at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. He enjoyed old time dancing, fishing, woodworking, gardening, card playing, family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a Green Bay Packer fan.
Surviving Roger, is his special friend Diane Wild of Le Center, son; Michael Whipps of Le Center, daughters; Lori (and Greg) Weldon of Heidelberg and Amy (and Lorne) Chappuis of Shieldsville, sisters; Margie Gruetzmacher of Le Center, Rita Whipps of Waterville and brother; Lyle Whipps of North Branch, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
