Ziedonis Silis

—  Ziedonis Silis, age 92, of St. Peter, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato.

  Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Mankato Mortuary with visitation held one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Mankato. Memorials are preferred to the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Ducks Unlimited, or an environmental organization of their choice.

  Ziedonis was born March 22, 1920, to Augusts and Zelma (Loders) Silis in Riga, Latvia.  He went to the University of Riga in Latvia.  In 1948, Ziedonis was married to Astrida Petersons in Germany.  They made their home in Mankato and were blessed with two children. Ziedonis worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  He loved the outdoors.  Ziedonis was an intellectual person with a big heart and loved his family.

  Ziedonis is survived by his wife, Astrida; two children: Maruta Grean and Ainars Silis; two grandchildren: Chris and Andrew Grean; great-nephew: Arturs Ungurs; and his dog, Carmen.
