Forrest Irving Glick, age 77, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, at Oak Terrace in North Mankato, after complications due to Parkinson's and dementia. Memorial service to be held 11:00 a.m. Sat., Feb. 25, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 720 S. 2nd St., Mankato. Visitation one hour prior to service.
He will be deeply missed by loving wife of 47 years, Marvis. Children: Arthur (Kathleen), Minneapolis.;Jennifer (Jeffrey), Eden Prairie; Reginald (Karin), Lakeville. Grandchildren: Samantha, KaylaAnne, Zachary, Afton, Olin, Charles and John. Siblings: brother, Laverne, and sisters, Myrtle and Gail.
Forrest was born May 24, 1934, in Glasgow, Mont., to Samuel and Gladys (Beaumont) Glick. He graduated from Glasgow Highschool in 1952. Forrest attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and graduated in 1956 Cum Laude. He attended the University of Minnesota and received his PhD of Physics in 1966. He taught summer school at the University of Minnesota from 1965-1968. Forrest married Marvis Ione Oslund June 6, 1964. He began his tenure at Mankato State University in 1966 and was a professor there until 1993.
He had many interests and hobbies. His love of music started as a child. He learned to play the piano, violin, trombone, tuba, sousaphone, bugle and was a member of the church choir and played in a brass sextet. He earned his Eagle Scout, and he and brother Laverne held the Boy Scout Morse Code speed and accuracy record. He loved downhill skiing and was a Ski Patrol at Mt. Kato for 10 seasons. He enjoyed working with his hands and helped with many home improvements, including Habitat for Humanity. He loved to travel and experience new things.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Loretta Steffensen, Brush, Colo.
Our family would like to thank everyone at Oak Terrace who cared for Forrest these last three years and the Hospice caregivers and volunteers. It was a comfort knowing he was in caring hands.
