Harold E. Krengel

— Harold E. Krengel, age 77, of Mapleton, died on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at his home in Mapleton, surrounded by his family.

  Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Mapleton.  Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at St. Teresa's Catholic Church  gathering space, Mapleton.  Visitation will continue one hour before service Wednesday at St. Johns Lutheran Church.  Burial will be in Barnard's Valley View Cemetery, rural Good Thunder.  Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System  Hospice.

  Harold was born June 22, 1935 to Leo Chuck and Verona (Bunde) Krengel in Beauford Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota.  He was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Good Thunder and confirmed in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mapleton.  Harold graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1953 and attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture College.  On August 24, 1957 he was united in marriage to Pattie Whitney at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mapleton.  Harold and his brother, Gary, started Krengel Bros. Farm Drainage in 1953 and were partners in business for over 50 years.  He loved working with the soil and made many lasting friends with his customers.

  He was an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years, was the Sunday School Superintendent, Luther League leader, and sang in the choir.  He was Minnesota Contractor of the Year in 2004.  Harold was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia in 1997, but remained at home and was cared for by his loving wife Pattie of 56 years.

  Harold is survived his wife, Pattie; children, Debbie (Rick) Liskow of Rochester, Cindy (David) Mertens of Santa Barbara, CA, and Tim (Kristi) Krengel of Good Thunder; grandchildren, Jesse Knutson, Zach and Kaleb Krengel, Nicole Brunz, Karissa and Cruz Mertens, Nicole (Rob) Langhiem, Ryan Liskow; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Finn, and Arie, Aiden Hunt; three brothers, Roger (Dixie) Krengel of North Mankato, Gary (JoAnn) Krengel of Mapleton, and Ronald (Illa Jean) Krengel of Minnesota Lake; many nieces and nephews.

 Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Verona Krengel; brother, Jerome Krengel; granddaughter, Hannah Krengel.
