Malcolm Kerr MacKenzie

—  Malcolm Kerr MacKenzie, age 86, of Apple Valley and formerly of St. Peter, was united with the Lord on Monday, December 31, 2012.

  A Celebration of His Life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Union Presbyterian Church, St. Peter with Rev. Andrew Davis officiating.  Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, St. Peter. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, January 4th at St. Peter Funeral Home - Klein Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.  Memorials are preferred to the Traverse des Sioux Treaty Site History Center or the Twin Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

   Malcolm was born April 3, 1926, in Gaylord, MN.  He was the son of State Senator Claude H. MacKenzie and Ruth Jean (Wheelock) MacKenzie.  Malcolm earned the rank of Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Gaylord High School in 1944.  Malcolm served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.  Malcolm then attended the University of Minnesota and the U of M Law School; graduating and passing the bar exam in 1951. On June 24, 1950, Malcolm was united in marriage to the love of his life, Donna Marie Tauer.  They were blessed with three children. Malcolm started practicing law in St. Peter in 1951 and was in private practice for 11 years.  In 1962 he partnered with Bill Gustafson to form the Gault, MacKenzie & Gustafson Law Firm. Malcolm served as Nicollet County Attorney for 12 years and had also served as a lobbyist for the County Attorney Association. Other community involvement included:  Lions Club (serving as District Governor for a time) leadership in the Twin Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and served one term as the President of the Clan MacKenzie Society of the Americas.

  Malcolm enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family; at the family cabin, camping vacations, and winters on the Alabama coast.

   Malcolm is survived by his daughter, Kyle (John) Nowell; son, Charles (Leigh Ann) MacKenzie; daughter-in-law Lynn MacKenzie; grandchildren: Heather (Paul) Polivka, Brandon (Katie) Macrafic,  Chalyce (Ryan) Bland, Colin (Trish) MacKenzie, Caleb (Kelly) MacKenzie, Cameron MacKenzie, Blake MacKenzie, and Nicole MacKenzie; step-grandchildren: Michael (Allison) Bell and Lisa (John) Thompson;  great-grandchildren: Henry and Ellie Macrafic, Colton MacKenzie; step-great-grandchildren: Shelby and Reagan Skinner, Ethan and Sara Thompson, and Jonas Bell.

   Malcolm was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Donna; his parents; his sister, Betty Jean and his son, Bruce.
