Jeanette (Doyen) Pick

  Jeanette (Doyen) Pick, age 101, of Mapleton, died March 2, 2013, at the  Mapleton Community Home.

 Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Mapleton. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.  Visitation  will be from 12 noon until the time of service on Saturday.  Olson Tichenor Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

 Jeanette was born to Harm and Reka (Rosenbaum) Doyen on November 16, 1911, at Pomeroy, Iowa.  At the age of 9, she and her family moved to a farm near Good Thunder.  She attended grade school near the farm.   After 8th grade, she started to work in various homes as a hired girl.

 She has been a member of St. John's Lutheran Church since age 9. She was confirmed in 1926.  She was in Luther League, sang in the choir in her early years, and became very active in Ladies Aid and the later WELCA.  She was a constant worker with the quilters group

of the church.

 Jeanette and Irvin Pick of Minnesota Lake, son of William and Cleo Pick, were married at St. John's Lutheran Church, September 29, 1936.  They lived on the Pick family farm in Danville Township until 1975 when they moved to their home in Mapleton.  Irvin died in 1991 and Jeanette continued to live in her home until she moved to Country Neighbors in the fall of 2004 and became a resident of the Mapleton Community Home in November 2009.

 Her children are Mary (Ralph) Heaney of Kiester and Ronald (Pat) Pick of Savage.  There are six grandchildren, Catherine Henderson of Naples, FL, Diane (Clyde) Buendorf of Keister, Steven (Cheryl) Heaney of Victoria, Collin (Rene) Pick of Tarpon Springs, FL, Chad (Amy) Pick of North Andover, MA, Garret (Janet) of Honolulu, HI and 11 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by sister, Helen Rose (Billie) Caven of Amboy; sisters-in-law, Ora Mae Doyen and Francis Jean Pick.

 She is also preceded in death by her sisters: Ancile Osmundson, Laura Witter and infant Nora; and brothers: Raymond Doyen and Lawrence.
