Ronald Raymond Traxler, age 76, of Elysian, MN, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Home in Waterville after a long battle with dementia.
Visitation is at the Le Center Funeral home on Sunday, October 14, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Marysburg Catholic Church in Marysburg with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at Marysburg Catholic Cemetery.
He was the first born of Andrew and Evelyn (Howe) Traxler on January 22, 1936, in St. Peter, MN. He attended Country School, St. Marys School in Le Center and was a graduate of McKinley High School.
In 1955 he enlisted in the Army. His tour took him to Germany for 18 months where he was a paratrooper and served in the military security police. He served with the 11th and 82nd Air Borne. After the service he came home to Le Center to start his farming career.
He married Jeanne Marie Chamberlain on January 25, 1961, at St. Peter and St. Pauls Catholic Church in Mankato. They had 6 children. In 1963 they purchased a farm in rural Elysian Township and farmed there for 46 years.
He enjoyed raising beef cows and calves and showing them to his grandchildren. He also enjoyed old cars, auction sales, his BSA motorcycle and fishing.
Ronald is survived by sons Richard (and Sue) Traxler of Northfield, their children Kaitlyn, Nicole and Alex, Jeffery (and Ann) Traxler of Kenyon, their children Jacob, Caleb, Levi and Quinn, daughters; Colleen (and Brad) Carlson of Janesville, their children Donald, Ted, and Sam, Judi (and Marty) Baker of Kasota, their children Bennet and Andrew, Cynthia Ayers of Waterville, and her children Brady, Colin and Reid, Kristin (and Ron) Greenwald of Waterville, and their children Ethan, Aiden and Jaelyn, brother; Gordon (and Charlotte) Traxler, brother-in-laws; Robert (and Myrna) Chamberlain of Aberdeen, SD, Gordon (and Mary) Chamberlain of Mankato and Gary (and Mary) Chamberlain of Mankato, four nieces and four nephews.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents.
Military honors are provided by the Le Center area Honor Guard.
