Jacob Thomas Schmidt, 25, of Ladysmith, joined his sister Laura in Heaven on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012.
Jake was born Nov. 1, 1986, to Dianne Sohler and Randall Schmidt in Mankato, Minn. He moved to Bruce in 1991.
He graduated from Bruce High School in 2005, and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Jake had a great love of music and was active in the high school band, as well as theater.
Jake's second passion was golf. He was a member of the Bruce High School Golf Club. He was a member of the Amacoy Lake Golf Course while in high school, when he was known to play rounds of golf back to back.
Jake played in a band with his friends and loved singing karaoke.
He loved walking and especially enjoyed the beauty of Rusk County.
He loved reading, computer games and the Green Bay Packers. He also played trumpet, guitar and piano.
Jacob is survived by his mother Dianne Sohler and Ted Roberts of Mankato, Minn.; his father Randall Schmidt of Omaha, Neb.; his brother 2nd Lt. John Schmidt of Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton,Ohio; his brother Luke (Teresa) Schmidt their children Simon and Emily of Eagle, WI; his maternal grandparents Francis and Phyllis Sohler of Mankato; his paternal grandmother Ruth Haefner of Mankato; his paternal grandfather John Anderson of Bella Vista, Ariz.; his godparents Paula Brooks of Mankato and Mike Sohler, of Lake Crystal, Minn.; and many aunts uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service for Jacob will be held on Thursday; November 8th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bruce, WI with burial in the Bruce Cemetery. The Schmidt - Sohler family will receive friends at the Church from 9:30 AM until service time.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Thomas Schmidt; his aunt Karen Kliest and his beloved little sister Laura.
Jake will be buried in the Bruce Cemetery next to his sister Laura.
The Nash-Jackan Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
