Fisher, Ruth Bergliot of Minneapolis, formerly of Robbinsdale, passed away November 12, 2012. She so badly wanted to make it to 100 years, but died just shy of that at age 99-1/2.
Ruth, Curt Fisher's mother, is remembered as a spirited, caring and loving mother and friend. She had an innate ability to empathize with others, which came so easily and effortlessly for her. She was a devoted wife, a dedicated and loving mother, the heart of the home, the director of the family social calendar, a fun and interested friend and an adoring daughter to her beloved mother, Bertha. She participated with her son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Debbie, and their family, in many activities that she enjoyed in Mankato. The friends with whom she became acquainted grew fond of her warmth and friendliness and her enthusiasm and involvement in many Mankato celebrations. Some of her pastimes included watching figure skating, Twins baseball and Vikings football. Her feisty and competitive nature made her a serious 500 card player. She spent hours in her retirement making beautiful and intricate counted cross-stitch pictures. Ruth enjoyed traveling with her husband, Sam, and she took trips to various destinations with each of her adult children. One in particular was a trip she made with her youngest son, Curt, to Belize, Central America. She surprised everyone by going parasailing in the Caribbean Sea at the age of 87 yrs. Ruth was known for being a good sport and became a part of many adventures with her children and grandchildren. She welcomed each grandchild, great-grandchild and great, great- grandchild into the family with open arms. Ruth's greatest legacy is what a wonderful role model she was for everyone in the family. She's admired for her "spirit" and "go for it attitude", her constant love and dedication to the family, her persistence in encouraging those she loved to achieve excellence and her determination to enjoy life.
Preceded in death by her husband, Sam; son, Stephen; and parents, Ole and Bertha Swan. Ruth is survived by daughter, Barbara Gustafson Carpenter (Richard); son, Curtis Fisher (Debbie); 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. A "Celebration of Almost 100 Years" will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, November 19, 2012 at Washburn-McReavy Hillside Chapel, 2610 - 19th Avenue NE, Minneapolis. Visitation will be held Sunday 3-7 PM. and one hour prior to service. Interment Hillside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Zuhrah Shrine Women's Auxiliary on behalf of the Minneapolis Shrine Children's Hospital, or donor's choice.
