Darrell Gene Erickson

—   Darrell Gene Erickson, 75, passed away peacefully on 07/09/12, at the Minnesota Valley Hospital, surrounded by his family.

  Darrell was born on 03/19/1937 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Ray and Adele Erickson.  He grew up in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High in 1955.  He attended Gustavus Adolphus College, earning a double major in Psychology and Business Management in 1959.  While attending college, he met Marilyn Espeseth and they were married in 1960.

  After completing National Guard Service, he accepted a position with Green Giant and they settled in LeSueur.  He worked at various positions within Green Giant and Pillsbury for 32 years.

  Darrell enjoyed coaching Babe Ruth baseball and other youth sports.  He was active on the church council, school board, and Meals on Wheels program.  He did volunteer tax consulting and was involved in other charitable activities.

  He enjoyed his annual fishing trips with his friends.  While driving the van-pool for Pillsbury, he delighted in assigning nicknames for his colleagues.  He enjoyed driving his old pick-up and the camaraderie of the morning crew.

  He will be remembered for his charitable, easy going nature.  He had an uncommonly keen mind for math and puzzles of all varieties.

  He will be sadly missed by his wife, Marilyn; children Becky Erickson, Terri Gartner and companion, Rod Umbreit, and John Erickson; grandchildren Joseph (Tanya) Gartner, Jamie Gartner and companion, Fidencio Flores, and Andrew Erickson; great-grandchildren Hayli and Lily Flores and Gavin Gartner; and sister Beverly (Gerald) Haremza.

  He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Adele Erickson.

  His presence lives on through those who knew and loved him.

  Friends and relatives of Darrell are invited to join with us for a celebration of his life to be held on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Linneus Interpretive Center, Gustavus Adolphus College, in St. Peter, Minnesota.
