Mary Katheryn Curtis

  Mary Curtis was born on June 26, 1914 on a farm near Slayton, Minnesota to Fred and Julia Boyle West.  She grew up on the family farm.  Mary graduated Salutatorian from Slayton High School in 1932.  Mary then attended normal teacher training in Slayton and taught country school for several years.

  On June 14, 1937 she and Glenn Curtis were married at St. Ann's Church in Slayton.  Following their marriage they made their home in Slayton.  Mary returned to teaching for one year after her marriage.

  In 1958 Mary started working as a clerk at Sacks' grocery store in Slayton.  She later worked at Nordin's Supervalu, which later became Jim's Market.  Mary retired in 2004 at the age of 90.  After a brief stay at the Murray County Medical Center, Mary moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on August 15, 2012 and passed away there on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the age of 98.  She was a member of St. Ann's Church where she was active in the W.C.C.W and with the Catholic Daughters of America.

  Survivors include her husband of 75 years, Glenn Curtis of Slayton, MN, six children and their spouses, Mary Jo Surprenant of Mankato, MN, Colleen and Bob Reiter of Golden Valley, MN, Mike Curtis of Hampton, VA, Pat and Mark Donaldson of Knoxville, TN, Tom and Candy Curtis of Eden Valley, MN, and Kathleen and Charlie Blesener of Elk River, MN, 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, two sisters and their spouses, Jerry and Ray Milewski of Minneapolis, MN, and Theresa and Ed Tomsche of Melrose, MN.

  She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Daniel Curtis, son-in-law, Ken Surprenant, five sisters, Carmel Brouillet, Alyce Miller, Pat Knuth, Betty West, and Joan Walters, and one brother, Joe West.

  Funeral Services: St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating.  Interment is at St. Ann's Cemetery Slayton, MN.

  Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at St. Ann's Church in Slayton from 4-7 p.m. with a CDA rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. To send condolences visit:
